No News About The Biggest News

Resized2_2016_01_23_Be_PreparedThose of us who live in modern, industrialized nations are blessed with the great benefits of technology. Take prediction of the weather, for example.

I live in Northern Virginia. As you likely know, this and other parts of the United States are undergoing historic blizzard conditions. Though most of us are trying to shovel ourselves out of 24+ inches, the snow came as no surprise to us. Thanks to the technology of sophisticated radars and other weather equipment, meteorologists informed us well in advance that we would be severely hit by this winter storm. With at least three days of advance warning, we were not caught off-guard. Every prudent person stocked up on groceries and other essentials in preparation to ride out the storm. We also did what we needed to do in anticipation of being snowed in for several days—purchased salt and snow shovels, rescheduled doctors’ appointments, rearranged flights to get back to our respective residences prior to the storm, to name just a few.

How wonderful to plan in advance!

But as I thought about the many advantages of anticipating being snowed in for several days, I couldn’t help but [Read More]

To Where In Life Are You Driving?

Winding road through fall forest in Appalachian MountainsHave you ever gotten behind the wheel of a vehicle without having somewhere to go? Unless you’re a parent driving around the neighborhood hoping that the motion of the car will settle down a cranky baby or child so she can fall asleep, none of us gets into a car and just drives around without having a specific place to go. If we recognize we must have a destination when it comes to the mundane task of driving—otherwise its completely mindless and crazy—why do we think we can simply go through the motions of life without being mindful of our final destination? How we live our days is how we live our lives; and how we live our lives is how our life stories are crafted. So why do we think we can lead a meaningful life while ignoring the fact that the choices we make each and every day are creating paths that are either taking us toward or away from that which really matters?

In terms of goals and a clear direction, many of us are going nowhere fast. Ralph Marston aptly said, “If you must choose between speed and direction, going faster will do you no good if the destination is not where you want to end up.” [Read More]

“You do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life?  It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away” (James 4:14).

How often do you think about the music of your life coming to an end?  It’s

Beware of the innate tendency to prejudge and have preconceived notions.  Otherwise, you just might miss the proverbial “diamond in the rough” that could have huge ramifications for your life.

Recently, our family made the decision to visit another church whenever there’s a fifth Sunday in the month.  This past April, we visited a local church that several of our friends attend. Intended for its members, the pastor was addressing some “housekeeping” matters this particular Sunday.  He began his sermon with, “My message today focuses on the state of our church.”   Settling into my chair, I mumbled quietly to myself, “State of the church? We sure picked the wrong Sunday to visit this church!”  Or, so I thought…. [Read More]

God’s Eternal Ink  By: Craig F. Pitts

I dreamed I was in heaven
Where an angel kept God’s book.
He was writing so intently
I just had to take a look.

It was not, at first, his writing
That made me stop and think
But the fluid in the bottle
That was marked eternal ink.

This ink was most amazing,
Dark black upon his blotter
But as it touched the parchment
It became as clear as water. [Read More]

My Inspiration Of The Week

Considering that the book I’ve recently authored is about living our lives for what really matters…I couldn’t help but be excited when — by GOD’s providence — I “happened’ to stumble upon the video below.  It inspired me and I hope it inspires you too!

The ONE That Really Matters (Michael W. Smith feat. Kari Jobe)
